Description
Certified Surgical Technician (CVOR Tech)
Location: Cooperstown, New York
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (~13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Job Overview
- Work primarily in a dedicated Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) with ~2–3 cardiac cases per week.
- Case types include Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) and valve replacements/repairs.
- Team includes 1 cardiac surgeon, 2 perfusionists, and 4 surgical techs (varies by shift).
- Must scrub independently for open heart cases and assist with vein harvesting (endoscopic experience preferred).
Required Experience
- Strong cardiac surgical tech experience in CVOR cases.
- Must also have experience in additional service lines due to lower cardiac volume:
- Vascular surgery
- General surgery
- Plastic surgery
- Candidates with only CVOR experience will not be considered.
Floating Requirements
- Daily floating required based on case volume.
- May float to:
- General OR
- Vascular surgery
- Other surgical specialties as needed
Equipment & Systems
- Experience with standard CVOR equipment, including:
- Heart-lung (bypass) machine support environment
- Cell saver
- Familiarity with common cardiac instrumentation and sterile setup required.
- No specific vendor system required; strong adaptability expected.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technician license/certification appropriate for the role.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required before onboarding.
- Immunizations and health screenings required before onboarding:
- MMR
- Hepatitis B
- Influenza vaccine
- TB test and annual TB questionnaire
- Varicella
- Fit test
- Physical/health statement
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID required before onboarding.
Additional Onboarding Requirements
- Professional background checks and verifications including:
- Criminal background check
- Employment verification
- Education verification
- National and state sex offender registry checks
- Submission of professional references (2 required).
- Completion of facility-specific forms and acknowledgements (e.g., confidentiality agreement).
- Completion of core competencies, unit exam, and skills checklist.
- Drug screening required.
