Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Oncology

Work Schedule

  • Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 to 7:30)
  • Rotating 12-hour day/night shifts possible depending on department needs
  • Shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks; changes based on staffing priorities
  • Self-scheduling requests allowed before final schedule posting

Unit Description

  • Mixed acuity: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical-Surgical (MS) patients
  • Ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Proficient in IV starts, telemetry monitoring, and tracheostomy management
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system

Orientation

  • Week 1: Monday to Friday, day shift orientation
  • Week 2: 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor

Background and Credentialing Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including:
    • Social Security trace
    • Counties lived/worked
    • Nationwide check
    • Sex offender registry
    • Motor vehicle record (if driving required)
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start; must be completed under specific code
  • Education verification: Graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • License verification within 30 days of start; NURSYS verification required for RNs
  • 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required

Certifications and Competencies

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA provider or instructor accepted
  • Unit-specific competency exams required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) – check unit specifics

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
  • TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test
  • Immunizations or titers required:
    • Measles (Rubeola) – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
    • Mumps – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
    • Rubella – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
    • Hepatitis B – titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Tdap – adult dose required (not acceptable: TD, DTaP, or declination if working with infants/pregnant patients)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); decliners must wear masks
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended if documented
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)

Additional Requirements

  • Annual fit mask (N95) testing required for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 and beyond; onsite fit testing available if needed
  • Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policies
  • Completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate prior to start and annually thereafter
  • Annual review and acknowledgment of ethics and compliance policies for new contracts signed 11/7/2024 and beyond

This position offers a dynamic oncology nursing role with opportunities to work in mixed acuity settings, requiring strong clinical skills and flexibility in scheduling. Prior oncology experience and travel nursing experience are advantageous but not mandatory. Compliance with comprehensive credentialing, background checks, and health requirements is essential.
