Pediatrics Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Washington, Olympia


Position Details

  • Job Title: Pediatrics Registered Nurse
  • Location: Olympia, Washington
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Night Shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Required to float between Pediatric Postpartum and Special Care Nursery units
  • Block Schedule: Not available
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (must live more than 50 miles from facility)
  • First-time Travelers: Not accepted (prior travel experience required)

Patient Population & Unit Information

  • Pediatric unit is within the Postpartum Unit
  • Common pediatric cases include:
    • Asthma
    • Bronchiolitis
    • Upper respiratory infections
    • Suicidal ideation and other psychiatric issues
    • Simple post-surgical care (appendectomy, tonsillectomy & adenoidectomy, etc.)
    • Failure to thrive
    • Jaundice
    • Non-accidental trauma
  • Postpartum care includes vaginal and C-section deliveries

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington state
  • Minimum 1 year of pediatric nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

  • Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care
  • Total Staffed Beds: 325
  • Electronic Health Record: EPIC

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background Checks & Verifications

  • Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
  • Education verification required for all candidates; international education requires diploma/transcript
  • State-specific searches including Washington State Patrol (WSP/WATCH) within 90 days of start
  • Work history verification and references required (minimum 2 references covering 1 year employment in specialty)
  • Employment application covering at least last 5 years required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
  • Fit mask test (respirator clearance) required annually for travel candidates
  • Immunizations or documented immunity required for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years; declination accepted)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; declination accepted)
    • Hepatitis B (vaccination series or signed declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; declination accepted)
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
    • COVID-19 vaccination record preferred; declinations not required but unvaccinated must follow masking policies
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months; updated annually

Competency & Skills

  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
  • Pediatric-specific competencies including Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP) and Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) may be required based on unit
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certifications as applicable

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge (passport style with neutral background)
  • Completion of annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS
  • Respiratory safety clearance questionnaire for respirator use
  • WA Multi-State Licensed Nurses Demographic Attestation if applicable

Additional Notes

  • Travelers must be willing to float between pediatric and postpartum units.
  • Quick start candidates with pending licenses are accepted but must be able to start promptly.
  • Local residents within 50 miles are not eligible for this travel contract.
  • All required documentation and background checks must be submitted prior to start.
  • No accommodation for block scheduling at this time.
