Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg/Telemetry Float Pool
Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours (12-hour shifts)
Unit: MedSurg/Telemetry Float Pool (floats primarily to 6N, 7N, 4N, 5S, 6S, and Critical Care units)
Job Overview
- Float pool RN assigned a "parent unit" but may float to multiple med-surg and telemetry units.
- Patient assignments mainly include basic telemetry patients within RN scope.
- Must be able to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips.
- No drip titration required.
- Charge nurse available 24/7; night charge nurse takes patient assignments.
- CNAs are present on all units.
- Respiratory equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP (managed by RTs, not nurses).
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
- Cardiac catheterization patients
- Chest pain
- Pneumonia
- Chronic renal disease
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
- Orthopedics
- Oncology (permanent staff administer chemotherapy)
Nurse-to-Patient Ratios
- Typically 1:5-6 during day and night shifts.
- Occasionally up to 1:7 near shift end, depending on patient acuity.
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required.
- Must pass a cardiac rhythm exam prior to assignment.
- Valid, unexpired driver’s license required (due to 50-mile radius rule).
Experience Requirements
- Must have RN experience with ACLS-level cardiac care.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
- No drip titration experience required.
Scheduling & Work Requirements
- 12-hour night shifts (7 PM – 7 AM).
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday).
- Holiday shifts included in rotation with permanent staff.
- Float pool RNs report to clinical coordinator before shift for unit assignment.
- Orientation: 1-2 shifts with a preceptor on the unit.
Additional Information
- Dress code: Royal blue scrubs for RNs.
- Telemetry monitors are Phillips brand; monitor techs available but RNs must interpret strips.
- Respiratory treatments (breathing treatments, inhalers) administered by RTs.
- No call or standby requirements mentioned.
This position is ideal for RNs comfortable with telemetry monitoring, floating between med-surg and critical care units, and working night shifts with a consistent weekend and holiday schedule.
