CVICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Minneapolis, Minnesota


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (CVICU)
  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Contract Length: 12 weeks
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • Floating: Expected to float within ICU community (CVICU, Med/Surg ICU, Neuro ICU)
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: No (must be outside 100-mile radius)
  • Pending License Accepted: Yes
  • Return to Office Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
  • First-Time Travelers: Not accepted

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Minnesota
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Proficient in PA catheter interpretation and analysis

  • Required Certifications:
    • ACLS (AHA or ARC; RQI acceptable; certificate of completion not accepted)
    • BLS (AHA or ARC; RQI acceptable; certificate of completion not accepted)
  • License:
    • Valid Minnesota RN license (Primary source verification required)
    • Pending license accepted for start
  • Additional Certification Notes:
    • Other certifications (PALS, NRP, TNCC, NIH Stroke, etc.) required only as applicable per unit (not specified for this role)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 1 year required (7-year standard MN statewide search)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 1 year
  • MN DHS Net Study Fingerprint clearance required before start (no starts with fingerprints pending unless approved “more time needed” letter)
  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start required
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap (no declinations accepted without approved exemption; exemptions restrict patient care areas)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (or acceptable history documentation)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no exemptions)
    • Hepatitis B: positive titer, proof of series, or signed declination required
    • Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no exemptions)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination documentation required for 2025-26 season (declinations accepted)
  • Drug testing: 9-panel within 1 year (not required for client clearance)
  • OSHA Respiratory Safety clearance required prior to start (RespSafety virtual questionnaire)
  • Photo for badge: passport-style headshot required within 48 hours of signing

Training & Onboarding

  • Completion of facility-specific preorientation online modules required within 72 hours of login (3-9 hours depending on specialty)
  • Skills checklist and medication/pharmacology competency exams required annually
  • Must comply with facility uniform guidelines

Additional Notes

  • Guaranteed hours subject to client cancellation policy (client may cancel up to 3 shifts without penalty)
  • No on-call requirement
  • References not required for client clearance but required for per diem candidates
  • Candidates must be prepared to travel and work in a high-acuity ICU environment with advanced cardiac and critical care technologies

This position is ideal for experienced CVICU RNs with strong critical care skills and advanced cardiac device experience who are seeking a travel contract in a Magnet-designated, Level III trauma teaching hospital in Minneapolis, MN.
