Job Opportunity: Stepdown Cardiac Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 48
Job Description
- This is a travel/contract RN position in a Stepdown (SD) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting.
- Must have documented experience working with a 1:5 patient ratio in SD or PCU; ICU experience does not count toward this requirement.
- Targeted patient ratios are typically 1:5 to 1:6.
- Typical patients include heart failure, chest pain rule out, NSTEMI, post-procedure patients, COPD exacerbation, drug/alcohol overdose and withdrawal.
- RN must be competent in running IV drips such as heparin, nitroglycerin, amiodarone, Cardizem, insulin, etc.
- Nurses will be fitted for N95 masks prior to working on the unit unless PAPR is offered/needed.
- Floating is required at the employer’s discretion, potentially to multiple nearby campuses within 15 miles.
- Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays.
- Employer reserves the right to cancel up to 2 shifts during the 13-week contract due to low census and may cancel the agreement with 2 weeks’ notice without penalty.
- Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 1.5 years of Stepdown nursing experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year
- Experience working with a 1:5 patient ratio in Stepdown or PCU, as demonstrated in work history
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray documentation required; if past positive TB, additional documentation and annual questionnaire required.
- Required vaccinations or immunity attestations: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination series, immune titer, or declination).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 12 months prior to documentation due date, including marijuana panel. Random drug screening may be required during orientation week.
- Respirator medical questionnaire and clearance required prior to orientation; N95 mask fitting provided.
Documentation and Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- E-Verify and I-9 documentation required prior to start.
- Background checks required: 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, national or all-state checks, sex offender registry, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG.
- Fingerprinting not required for this unit.
- Education verification required for all non-RN candidates (not applicable here).
- Current resume/application required.
- Two professional references within 2 years required; one must be a manager, supervisor, or charge nurse. Employment verification accepted if references are unavailable.
- Skills checklist required within 1 year prior to documentation due date and updated annually.
- Annual health questionnaire required.
- Candidate agreement form must be completed prior to documentation due date.
Additional Notes
- Overtime is paid after 48 hours worked in the contract.
- Request for time off (RTO) must be submitted with initial application; no RTO added after offer. Approval is at manager’s discretion.
- Scrubs color: Navy blue.
