Description

Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER)

Location: Lansing, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per 4-week schedule (3x12 hours, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Work in a Level 1 Trauma Center with Stroke and Heart Centers, including a Pediatric Emergency Department.
  • Floating to Pediatrics possible.
  • Weekend requirement: Work 3 weekends (Friday-Sunday) per 4-week schedule; may be scheduled for 1 to all 3 weekend days.
  • No on-call duties.
  • High patient-to-nurse ratios expected (typically 1:5-6, potentially up to 1:8 during high census or holidays).
  • EPIC charting experience required.
  • Modules related to orientation are completed onsite and are not billable (approx. 5 hours).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Michigan
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (American Heart Association)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or ATCN (Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Skills in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID (must be current throughout assignment).
  • Social Security Card.
  • E-Verify compliance.
  • Background checks within 30 days of assignment start, including:
    • 7-year Social Security Number Trace
    • National Criminal History Search (7 years)
    • National Sex Offender Database Search
    • FACIS Level 3 Search
    • Education verification (highest level required)
  • Michigan Workforce Fingerprinting required only for specific locations (not applicable here unless specified).
  • Physical exam within 12 months, noting latex sensitivity.
  • N95 Fit Mask test within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination accepted
    • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or Tspot) within 1 year; if positive, negative chest x-ray and TB questionnaire required annually
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity (2 MMR vaccines or titers) or declination
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
    • Varicella immunity (2 vaccines or titers) or declination
  • 10-panel drug screen with THC within 30 days of start (medical marijuana cards or dilute screens not accepted).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required for start dates during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).
  • Completion of facility-specific documents and orientation safety manual acknowledgment prior to start.
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency required (no expiration).
  • Resume with 7-year work history and 2 references from previous employers required.
  • Skill inventory checklist required.

Additional Notes

  • No Return to Office (RTO) requests allowed for July.
  • RTO must be submitted at time of application; no later approvals.
  • Locals are accepted with same pay as travelers.
  • Prior travel experience is not required; unit accepts first-time travelers.
