Description
Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- 36 hours per week: 3 shifts of 12 hours (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Alternative schedule: 40 hours per week with 2 shifts of 12 hours and 2 shifts of 8 hours
- No 4x10 shifts allowed
- On-call requirement: 2 calls per Monday-Friday week (either 7 PM-11 PM or 7 PM-7 AM)
- Weekend requirement: Two 24-hour calls per schedule
- Floating within scope to meet facility needs is expected
- Every other Monday required for OR coverage
Job Details
- Must independently scrub cardiac surgery and circulate in the operating room
- Average nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
- First-time travel nurses accepted
- Pending license accepted but must be active prior to start date
- Guaranteed hours provided
- Start date: ASAP
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Connecticut
- Minimum 2 years of CVOR experience, with CVOR experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Must independently scrub cardiac surgery
- Must circulate in the operating room

- Short Term Acute Care facility
- Level I Trauma Center
- 1567 staffed beds
- Charting system: Epic
- Scrub color provided
- Parking cost: $125/month
Compliance & Training Requirements
Candidates must complete and provide documentation for the following:
Background Checks & Verifications
- 7-year criminal background check (updated annually)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification including foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
- Sex offender search
- Employment verification for last 7 years (no attestations)
Health & Immunization
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (clean shaven required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Immunizations or titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
- Tdap vaccination highly preferred for certain specialties (not required)
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31)
- COVID vaccine series preferred
Competency Exams & Training
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (minimum 85% score)
- Color blind testing (minimum 80% score) required for all candidates starting on/after 8/2/2024
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER/ED, ICU, Progressive Care, Stepdown, PACU, IR/Cath Lab, Labor and Delivery units (not required for NICU, Psych, Pediatric, Ambulatory)
- Skills checklist within 12 months of start
- Language services training
- CAUTI education training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
- Suicide risk and environmental assessment training
- Mobile heartbeat alarm training (except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU)
- Stroke education (except Pediatric specialties and NICU)
- CLABSI prevention training
- Preventing pressure injury training
- Patient transportation with oxygen education
- Pyxis ES MedStation training
- Baxter pump interoperability training
- Patient bedside rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular assist device awareness
- AME blood administration module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
- New employee orientation module
- 21st Century Cures Act module (required for RN except Home Health)
- Fire safety module (effective 5/4/2026)
- Chaperone policy training (effective 5/31/2024)
Additional Requirements
- EPIC testing or training for ER RNs with prior EPIC experience (optional but highly encouraged)
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable to certain units/roles
Notes
- Return to office (RTO) restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
- Block scheduling is not accommodated
- All required attestations and training modules can be completed and signed electronically
- Candidates must have photo ID matching legal name on first day
