Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (OR RN)
- Shift: Day shift, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
- Weekend Requirement: Yes, includes Saturday work shift
- Call Requirement: No
- Floating: Yes, within hospital only (no floating to sister hospitals)
- Patient Population: Orthopedic sports (limited total joints), minimally invasive arthroscopic and laparoscopic cases, robotics, general surgery, gynecology, urology, plastics
- Environment: Very busy, high acuity academic setting
- Average Daily Census: 50-75 patients
- Rooms: 28
- Scrub Color: Any (scrubs provided for OR personnel)
- Charting System: EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Washington
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Neuro and neurology experience required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) recommended (per unit requirements)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification) – check unit-specific job descriptions
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required (minimum 80% in dosage calculations)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for critical care and telemetry units
- Conscious Sedation competency exam required for GI Lab/Endoscopy RNs
- Facility-specific competencies and certifications may apply
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check required within 45 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Education verification required (diploma/transcript acceptable for RNs)
- Sex offender search required
- Washington State WATCH search required
- Social Security card required if used on I-9
- Performance evaluation requested at end of assignment (Montlake location)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam signed by a physician within 1 year of start (required by agency)
- Fit mask test within 9-12 months of start (3M N95 preferred; PAPR available onsite if needed)
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination (mandatory furlough if contracting disease after declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; declination process available with consequences
- Hepatitis B: Documentation of full vaccine series and positive titer or signed declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; history of disease not accepted at this facility
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption/declination required during flu season (Sept-April)
- COVID vaccination or declination required for tracking purposes
- 10-panel drug screen within one year of start (required by agency, not facility)
Facility Specifics
- Magnet, teaching hospital with Level Trauma designation
- Parking cost approximately $10.26 daily
- EPIC/Alaris integration training and attestation required prior to start
- Photo for badge required (DMV style, no selfies) due Monday prior to start
- Department checklist and PCIS agreement must be completed before start
- WA multi-state licensed nurses must complete suicide prevention training and demographic attestation if applicable
Additional Notes
- Guaranteed hours: In low census situations, travelers may be called off without charge or placed on-call for up to one shift in a two-week cycle
- Ambulatory or surgical areas closed on weekends/holidays will not schedule travelers during those times
- Candidates with facial hair must shave prior to fit testing
- On-site fit testing available as last resort with prior approval
- Candidates must complete UW email setup and learning modules before start
This position is ideal for RNs with OR and neuro experience seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity academic medical center environment.
