Registered Nurse – PCU (Night Shift)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Schedule: Weekdays and some weekends
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Key Responsibilities:
- Start and manage IVs
- Administer medications safely
- Monitor vital signs and patient responses
- Educate patients on treatments and self-care
- Collaborate with the care team on patient plans
- Use EPIC EMR for charting
- Float to lower acuity units as needed
- Follow hospital policies and maintain patient safety
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience, with at least 1 year within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply)
- Education must be from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- License verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
- Completion of a medication/pharmacology competency exam prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if failed)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and freedom from contagious disease
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
- Required immunizations and health documentation:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire in lieu of annual TB test renewal
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, and Rubella
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1–3/31)
- Fit mask testing required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 (onsite fit testing available if needed)
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Background check and fingerprinting results must be clear before start; pending fingerprint attestations accepted under specific conditions
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Adherence to dress code and hand hygiene policies
- Annual acknowledgment of ethics and compliance policies
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually
- NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit (check with recruiter)
- Parking options available for agency staff (details provided separately)
