Registered Nurse (PACU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Big Spring, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide post-anesthesia care for patients recovering from general surgery, GI endoscopy, and post-operative procedures.
  • Schedule: Day shift, 5x8 hour shifts (7:00 AM - 3:00 PM).
  • Call schedule shared between 2 RNs: on-call Mon, Tues, Fri-Sun one week; Wed/Thurs the next week; repeats.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
  • Current, valid RN license for Texas.
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • BLS certification (AHA or ARC accepted).
  • PALS, NRP, TNCC, and other certifications may be required based on assignment specifics.
  • Must pass medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Social Security Card.
  • Background check: 7-year check required within 30 days of start, including statewide, federal, education verification, and international search if applicable.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification or diploma as placeholder if pending.
  • State license verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
  • Pass/fail testing during orientation (medication administration, restraint, glucometer tests).
  • Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background).
  • Completion of facility-specific forms prior to start (health record, code of conduct, confidentiality, residency declaration, orientation updates, traveler orientation).
  • Vaccine exemption form if applicable (medical exemptions require provider documentation).

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing.
  • Fit mask test within 6 months prior to start; annual updates required.
  • Immunizations and titers required within 72 hours of contract signing:
    • TDAP (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year) and annual TB questionnaire
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if negative/equivocal
    • Hepatitis B: positive titer or series with declination form if applicable
    • Varicella: positive titer, 2 vaccines, or proof of disease; boosters if negative/equivocal
  • Drug testing required within 30 days; must include standard panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoid, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine, methadone, propoxyphene).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination form required during flu season (Oct 31 - Mar 31).
  • Initial COVID vaccination series required; boosters not required.

Additional Notes

  • Legal name must match exactly on all license documentation, IDs, social security card, and certifications; proof of name change alone is insufficient.
  • Orientation includes pass/fail testing with remediation offered same day if needed.
  • Call schedule requires flexibility for weekend and weekday coverage.
