Radiation Therapist Travel/Contract Job – Portland, Oregon
Job Details

- Shift: Alternating between 5x8-hour shifts (6:00 AM – 3:30 PM) and 4x10-hour shifts (9:00 AM – 8:30 PM), most likely 10-hour shifts with occasional 8-hour shifts
- Hours per Week: 40 hours
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Administer radiation therapy accurately as prescribed and planned by the physician.
- Maintain detailed and accurate treatment chart documentation.
- Verify prescription, diagnosis, chart, and patient identification before treatment.
- Communicate effectively with patients, explaining procedures, emergency protocols, and reinforcing physician advice regarding treatment reactions and care.
- Monitor clinical progress and report any complications or unusual reactions to nursing staff or Radiation Oncologist.
- Use treatment accessories and immobilization devices to accurately reproduce radiation treatment.
- Operate computerized simulation and treatment machines safely and effectively, observing radiation safety measures for patients and personnel.
- Prepare treatment rooms and equipment according to prescription specifications (field size, treatment distance, bolus, lead protection, etc.).
- Perform machine safety checks, warm-up procedures, and quality assurance (QA) on equipment.
- Construct immobilization devices and custom blocking techniques for prescribed therapy.
- Utilize advanced imaging equipment and treatment planning systems for precise tumor localization.
- Maintain electronic treatment records including side effects, incidents, and treatment changes.
- Train, mentor, and supervise radiation therapy students.
- Maintain daily treatment schedules.
- Adhere to department and hospital policies and the Radiation Therapist Code of Ethics.
- No on-call or floating required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Radiation Therapist license in Oregon
- Minimum of 1 year of Radiation Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
- ARRT (T) – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Radiation Therapy certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- OBMI certification
Compliance & Screening Requirements
- Background check within 6 months of start, including education and work history verification, international searches if applicable, and national sex offender search.
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel with methamphetamines listed, within 3 months prior to start.
- Primary source verification of state license within 60 days prior to start.
- Physical exam not required unless specified by agency standards.
- Fit mask testing required within one year prior to start (N95 or equivalent).
- Immunizations/vaccinations or signed declinations required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Seasonal Flu (deadline 12/01/2025; vaccine or signed declination acceptable)
- TB testing: Negative 2-step PPD, TSPOT, or QGOLD within 12 months of start; chest x-ray and annual questionnaire if positive history.
- Completion of facility-specific compliance modules prior to start (e.g., privacy, harassment prevention).
References & Work History
- Two (2) manager or supervisor references from the last 24 months required (direct supervision only).
- Employment application must include at least 7 years of work history with city and state for each position.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be fully available for compliance needs up until start date; any planned unavailability must be communicated in advance.
- Professional appearance policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
- No on-call or floating duties.
- Training and orientation materials will be provided; some modules must be completed before badge issuance.
