ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work every other weekend and float as needed
  • Unit: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Facility type: Short term acute care hospital, Level II Trauma Center
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Total staffed beds: 426

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Connecticut
  • Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience within the last year
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Required Compliance and Documentation

  • Valid photo ID matching legal name for identity verification on first day
  • 7-year criminal background check within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Foreign equivalency education evaluation and diploma required for internationally educated candidates
  • Education verification of highest level completed (official transcripts may be required)
  • Sex offender search required
  • Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start
  • Employment application with 7-year work history, no gaps over 90 days
  • Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
  • Skills checklist within 12 months of start
  • References per standard (for RRT, one must be from a supervisor)

Required Certifications and Competencies

  • ACLS and BLS (AHA or ARC)
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 12 months, minimum 85% passing score
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting on/after 8/2/2024), minimum 80% passing score
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for ICU RNs
  • NIH Stroke Certification required for all RNs except NICU, Behavioral Health, Case Management, and OR
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., TNCC for ER, CPI for Behavioral Health)

  • Language Services Training
  • CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
  • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
  • Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module (except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU)
  • Stroke Education (except Pediatric specialties and NICU)
  • CLABSI Prevention for Adult and Pediatric Training
  • Preventing Pressure Injury Training
  • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
  • Pyxis ES MedStation Modules
  • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
  • Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except certain hospitals)
  • AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
  • New Employee Orientation Module
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health)
  • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
  • eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
  • Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap of 6+ months between assignments or module updated)
  • Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026 and forward)
  • EPIC Testing (optional but highly encouraged for ER RNs with Epic experience)

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation (T-Spot or QGold within 6 months, or 2 PPDs within 12 months)
  • TB questionnaire updated annually
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines; boosters required if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, proof of 3-dose vaccine series, or declination within 1 year
    • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history; boosters if low/equivocal titer
    • Tdap vaccination preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum (declination accepted)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (rapid accepted)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination series preferred
