Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Oncology
Location: Aurora, Colorado
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)

Job Details
- Unit: Medical Surgical Oncology
- Total staffed beds: 36
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: Typically 1:4 on day shift, 1:5 on night shift; ratios may flex based on staffing and unit needs. Candidates must be comfortable with flexible staffing ratios and have prior experience in such environments.
- Charting system: Epic
- Scrub color: Navy
- Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility needs, including sister facilities.
- Weekend work: Required
- On-call: Not required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado
- Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Must be comfortable working nights and weekends
- Oncology certification preferred but not required
- Candidates must be comfortable with flexible nurse-to-patient ratios and floating as needed
Required Documents & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID (clear copies front/back)
- E-Verify or attestation
- Proof of name change if applicable (certifications/licensure must match current legal name)
- Background checks within 60 days of start, including:
- 7-year background check (SSN trace, state and federal checks, education verification from accredited nursing schools)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification or transcript/diploma acceptable
- NURSYS verification within 60 days of start
- Colorado CAPS check results within 60 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA (not Chiropractor)
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start and updated annually (specific 3M masks required; onsite testing available)
- Immunizations and titers:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 1 year
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, with annual TB questionnaire if positive
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive MMR IGG titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if titers negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, vaccine series, or declination; booster may be required if low titer
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if titer negative/equivocal
- Drug testing within 30 days of start and updated annually (specific panel required)
- COVID vaccine proof or signed declination
- Color blind exam (Ishihara test) required prior to start; online testing not accepted for new candidates
- Annual compliance documents including:
- Skills checklist
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam (updated annually)
- Core competency exams (Parts I, II, III)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (updated annually)
- OSHA mandatory training (updated annually)
- UCHealth CO CAPS release authorization (annual)
Additional Requirements
- References: Two references from the last two years required; one must be from employment within the last year, from a Charge RN, Manager, Supervisor, or above
- Employment history verification for the last 3 years, including explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Candidate must confirm renewal plans for any certifications expiring within 90 days of start to avoid clearance issues
Time Off / Scheduling Notes
- Maximum of 10 RTO (request time off) days approved
- RTO not allowed during these blackout periods in 2026:
- June 28 – July 9
- September 2 – September 12
- October 25 – November 4
- Some flexibility may be considered for harder-to-fill positions
Summary
This is a night shift travel Registered Nurse position in Medical Surgical Oncology requiring at least 2 years of acute care experience. Candidates must hold a Colorado or Compact RN license and have current BLS certification. Oncology certification is preferred but not mandatory. The role requires weekend work, floating as needed, and comfort with flexible nurse-to-patient ratios. Extensive background checks, immunizations, and competency verifications are required.
