Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry (Transplant and Hepatology Unit)

Location: Aurora, Colorado
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Unit: 36-bed surgical unit specializing in Solid Organ Transplant, Thoracic Surgery, and Hepatology patients
  • Patient Population: High acuity surgical patients including lung, liver, kidney, pancreas transplant recipients and donors
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: Typically 2:1 or 3:1 for transplant patients during acute phases; 4-5:1 for other patients, with flexibility based on staffing needs
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend work: Required as per unit needs
  • Floating: Required within scope; may float to sister facilities as needed
  • Scrub color: Navy

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Colorado
  • Minimum 2 years of telemetry experience, with telemetry experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Special Unit Information

  • The transplant program performs all solid organ transplants in the Rocky Mountain region, including lung, liver, kidney, and pancreas
  • The unit admits transplant patients directly from the OR and provides specialized care during their most acute phases
  • The thoracic surgery program is nationally recognized for advanced surgical procedures
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration with Transplant, Hepatology, and Thoracic Surgery teams is integral to patient care

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Candidates must be comfortable working with flexible nurse-to-patient ratios and high acuity patients
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Maximum of 10 return-to-office (RTO) days allowed, with blackout periods during specified dates in 2026
  • Floating between units and facilities as needed

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Colorado RN license or Compact RN license verified within 60 days of start
  • Background checks including 7-year history, education verification, and various federal/state screenings required within 60 days of start
  • Health requirements:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA
    • Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (specific mask models required)
    • Immunizations/vaccines or titers for TDAP, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
    • COVID vaccine documentation or signed declination
    • Drug testing within 30 days of start, updated annually
    • Color blindness testing via Ishihara exam (online testing not accepted)
  • Competency exams and annual updates required for medication, dysrhythmia/EKG, OSHA, and core nursing competencies
  • References: Two references from the last two years required, including one from the last year, preferably from a Charge RN, Manager, or Supervisor
  • Employment history verification for the last 3 years required, with explanations for gaps over 30 days

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete facility-specific new employee orientation modules within the first two weeks of assignment
  • Candidates should be prepared to upload and maintain all required documentation and certifications to remain compliant throughout the assignment
