Job Summary
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for preparing and performing all nuclear diagnostic studies and maintaining the nuclear medicine lab. This role requires adherence to clinical protocols and regulatory requirements while ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare room and patient for exams; inject radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic imaging procedures.
- Calculate, measure, and record radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals used and disposed of according to State and Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations.
- Perform imaging procedures according to established protocols, adapting as needed using professional judgment.
- Consult with Radiologists and healthcare team members to ensure optimal imaging quality.
- Use proper patient positioning tools and ergonomic scanning techniques to ensure patient comfort and caregiver safety.
- Monitor patient condition during procedures and initiate emergency protocols if necessary.
- Verify patient identification, confirm preparation and contraindications, address patient questions, and provide clear instructions.
- Process images, perform quality control, archive images, complete documentation, and report diagnostic observations to physicians.
- Provide clinical and/or didactic instruction to students, new hires, and fellows; evaluate and document their performance.
- Clean and test equipment for safe operation; take corrective actions as needed.
- Adhere to all department workflows, policies, and procedures.
- Safely handle hazardous drugs if assigned, including receipt, storage, compounding, repackaging, dispensing, transporting, and disposal.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Nuclear Medicine Technologist license in Maine
- Nuclear Medicine Technologist with a minimum of 2 years of experience
- Experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist within the last year
- Accredited through NMTCB or ARRT

- This position covers a leadership role during the Nuclear Medicine Supervisor’s maternity leave.
