Description

NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Bowling Green, Kentucky
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide care from Level 1 well baby to Level 3 NICU patients, with experience in Mother-Baby care required.
  • Patient ratios range from 1:3 to 1:4.
  • Must be able to float within scope to Well Baby and assist with deliveries; floating to Postpartum is highly preferred.
  • Weekend work is required.
  • Orientation occurs on Mondays.
  • Must adhere to a strict documentation deadline: all required documents due by 5 PM PST the Tuesday before the start date.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • At least one completed travel nursing assignment.
  • Current certifications required:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
    • STABLE certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Immunizations & Health Requirements

  • Flu vaccine is mandatory with no exemptions allowed; documentation must be provided prior to clearance.
  • COVID-19 vaccination, exemption, or declination required for reporting purposes (will not prevent starting).
  • Required immunizations or positive titers:
    • Measles (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Mumps (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Rubella (1 vaccine or positive titer)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
  • Negative TB test (Qgold/TSPOT) within 2 months of start, with annual updates required onsite. Positive TB requires additional physician-signed clearance.
  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands.
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 1 year, updated annually.

Background & Compliance

  • Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; facility will run its own background check as well.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals.
  • Education verification required; official transcript or diploma may be accepted if necessary.
  • Kentucky Vulnerable Adult Maltreatment Registry check required for all candidates.
  • Drug screening: Negative 13-panel drug screen within 12 months of start; a second drug screen will be performed onsite during orientation. Random drug screening may be required during the contract.

Documentation & Onboarding

  • Complete employment application including 7-year work history.
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations.
  • Performance evaluation required annually if previously worked at this facility.
  • Skills checklist and competency exams must be updated annually.
  • Required to review and sign multiple facility-specific documents including confidentiality, computer agreement, and job description.
  • Badge photo required prior to start (white or cream background, waist up, limited facial piercings).
  • Must complete facility-specific training modules prior to start.

Additional Information

  • Locals within a 65-mile radius are accepted.
  • Open to accommodating block schedules when possible.
  • NICU night shifts are 3 shifts of 12 hours each.
  • Must be able to float to Well Baby and assist with deliveries; floating to Postpartum is highly preferred.

Prior Travel Experience

  • At least one prior completed travel nursing assignment is required; first-time travelers are not accepted.
