Registered Nurse – The Birthing Center
Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Unit Overview
- Unit: The Birthing Center
- Beds: 13 Labor & Delivery, 8 Triage, 17 Postpartum
- Average births: ~7.2 per day (YTD 1314)
- Common patient types: High-risk labor and antepartum
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- 1:1 active labor
- 1:3 triage
- 1:6 postpartum/mom-baby
- EMR system: EPIC
- Fetal Heart Monitoring system: GE Corometerics
- Telemetry system: Phillips
- 24/7 in-house OB/Neonatologist, Respiratory Therapy, and Pharmacy support
- IV Team available
- Ventilators located in OR, maintained by anesthesia
- Charge Nurse and House Supervisor scheduled every shift
- Nurse Aides and OB techs scheduled every shift
- Floor-specific orientation provided
- Floating between units required
- Scrub color: Ceil blue (hospital issued)
Shift Details
- Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Hours per day: 12
- Hours per week: 36
- Weekend requirement: 3 weekend shifts and 2 Fridays per schedule
- Holidays: Rotating per unit policy
- Call requirement: None
Required Certifications & Skills
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring (no expiration)
- Advanced Fetal Monitoring experience required
- EPIC experience required
- IV placement experience required
- C-section experience: Not required
Required Qualifications
- Must have prior experience in The Birthing Center or similar setting
- Valid nursing license as an RN (Registered Nurse)
- Driver’s license address must be outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
Additional Notes
- Previous permanent candidates must have been off the unit for at least 2 years before reapplying
- Previous travelers must have been off the unit for 2 years after completing a full year
- Submission limited to one position at a time across the system
- Travel teams must be submitted together
- Maximum of 2 candidates submitted per opening; additional submissions held until a spot opens
This position offers a specialized opportunity for experienced labor and delivery nurses with strong fetal monitoring skills and EPIC proficiency, working night shifts in a high-acuity birthing center environment.
