Registered Nurse - PCU Float (Night Shift)

Location: Wichita Falls, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Support primarily Medical-Surgical units with floating duties.
  • Work schedule: 36/48 hour alternating shifts with a 72-hour guarantee. Facility may consider straight 48-hour shifts but still with 72-hour guarantee.
  • Night shift options: either 3 or 4 shifts per week, each 12 hours (7 PM to 7 AM).
  • Must be willing to work weekends as needed, potentially most weekends during the contract. Block scheduling may be accommodated but set schedules cannot be guaranteed.
  • Preferred start date within the next 3-5 weeks.
  • Epic electronic health record experience is strongly preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with at least some PCU experience within the last year.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Prior travel nursing experience.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license or state ID).
  • Background check within 1 year, including SS trace, county searches for last 7 years, nationwide, and sex offender registry.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
  • Physical exam within 1 year, must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing.
  • Immunizations and health screenings required within 72 hours of contract signing or as noted:
    • TDAP vaccine within 10 years.
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, Q Gold, or TSpot) within 1 year; chest x-ray if positive PPD within 5 years.
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; exemptions apply for candidates born before 1957.
    • Hepatitis B: positive titer, series, or declination required.
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines, positive titer, or history of chickenpox required.
    • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - May 31); medical or religious exemptions may be submitted.
    • COVID-19 vaccination documentation required.
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year; plan for completion within facility timeframe required within 72 hours of contract signing.
  • Required facility-specific documents and acknowledgments must be completed prior to start, including orientation and compliance forms.
  • Two professional references within 3 years of start.
  • Resume or employment application required.
  • Annual updates required for skills checklist and orientation safety manual acknowledgment.

Additional Notes

  • Candidate must agree to floating assignments primarily on Med Surg and PCU units.
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated but fixed schedules are not guaranteed.
  • Facility may require submission of medical or religious exemption forms for flu vaccine.
  • Must be agreeable to alternating 36/48 hour shifts with a 72-hour guarantee.

This position is ideal for experienced travel Registered Nurses comfortable with night shifts, floating between Med Surg and PCU units, and meeting comprehensive compliance and certification requirements.
