Registered Nurse - PACU (Travel/Contract)
Location: Anchorage, Alaska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Position: Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, evening shift with variable start/stop times (ranges from 7:00 AM to 11:30 PM)
- Guaranteed Hours: 60 hours per 2 weeks (may be called off for 1 shift per 2 weeks)
- On-call: Yes, 1 call shift per month
- Weekend Requirement: 1 weekend shift per month
- Floating: No floating required
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Local candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 50 miles from facility)
- First-time travelers: Accepted

Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Alaska
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation
- ACLS
- PALS
Additional Requirements
- Background Check: Must be completed within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually
- Drug Screen: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable)
- Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation
- Immunizations & Health Documents:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination (Alaska placements require positive titer and vaccine series)
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID vaccination record preferred (declinations accepted)
- Respiratory Safety Clearance: Required annually for travel candidates
- Fit Mask Test: Required annually (may be completed onsite)
- References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment within last 3 years in comparable specialty/setting
- Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with month/year format
- Skills Checklist: Required and must be updated annually for applicable units
- Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Shift Times: Variable evening shifts with start times between 7:00 AM and 11:00 AM, ending between 7:00 PM and 11:30 PM
- Work Hours: 36 hours per week (3x12 hour shifts)
- Floating: Not required
- Block Scheduling: Not available
- On-call: Required once per month
- Weekend Work: Required once per month

- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules.
- Candidates must complete required background checks, health screenings, and immunizations prior to start.
- Local candidates are not eligible; must reside at least 50 miles from the facility.
