Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lansing, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Evening (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 1:00 PM – 1:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36

Job Description

• Work in a Level 1 Trauma Center with Stroke and Heart Center designations, including a Pediatric Emergency Department.
• Schedule includes working 3 weekends (Friday-Sunday) per 4-week period; weekend shifts may vary from 1 to all 3 days.
• Floating to Pediatrics possible.
• High patient-to-nurse ratios expected (typically 1:5-6, potentially up to 1:8 during busy times or holidays).
• No on-call required.
• EPIC charting system experience required.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Michigan
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
• Certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• Skills in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias

Preferred Experience

• Experience with continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation administration.
• Triage experience.
• First-time travelers are accepted.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License/State ID and Social Security Card required.
• Background checks including:

  • 7-year multi-state and county criminal history
  • Social Security Number Trace
  • National Sex Offender Database Search
  • FACIS Level 3 Search
  • Education verification and transcript/diploma as applicable
• Drug screening: 10-panel drug test including THC within 30 days of start (no medical marijuana cards or dilute screens accepted).
• Physical exam within 12 months, noting latex sensitivity.
• Immunizations and health screenings:

  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination accepted
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if positive PPD, negative chest X-ray and TB questionnaire required annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity via vaccines or titers (boosters or declination accepted if low titer)
  • Varicella immunity via vaccines or titers (booster or declination accepted if low titer)
  • Hepatitis B immunity via positive titer, vaccination series, or declination
  • Annual flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
• N95 Fit Mask test within 12 months, updated annually (specific approved mask types required).
• Facility-specific documents and modules must be completed prior to or at orientation; some modules are not billable and require time margin.
• Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required.
• Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit-specific exams required (no expiration).

Additional Notes

• Return-to-Office (RTO) documentation must be submitted at time of application; no changes allowed later.
• No RTO allowed for the month of July.
• Modules related to the unit must be completed before working on the floor; delays may prevent starting clinical work.
• References: 2 previous employer references required.
• Resume with 7-year work history required.
• Skill inventory checklist required.

Prior Travel Experience

• Not required; first-time travelers are accepted.
