Medical Surgical Oncology Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Aurora, Colorado
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Work Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Unit Type: Oncology, Medical-Surgical
  • Total Beds: 36
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Typically 1:4 (day), 1:5 (night); ratios may flex based on staffing and unit needs
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to similar units and possibly to sister facilities
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, per unit needs
  • Scrub Color: Navy

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Colorado
  • Minimum 2 years oncology experience, including oncology experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Acute care experience

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID (clear copies front/back)
  • E-Verify or Attestation
  • Proof of legal name change if applicable
  • 7-year background check including:
    • SSN Trace
    • Colorado Statewide CBI
    • Education verification (accredited nursing school)
    • Sex offender search
    • OFAC Sanctions List check
  • Employment and work history verification for last 3 years (gaps >30 days must be explained)
  • 2 professional references from last 2 years (one from last year, from Charge RN, Manager, or Supervisor)
  • Colorado CAPS check within 60 days of start
  • Compliance with facility-specific onboarding and training modules

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (3M 1860S, 1860R, 1870/1870+ masks accepted)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • TDAP within 10 years or signed declination
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (including True 2-Step PPD or equivalent)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive MMR IGG titer or 2 vaccines (boosters required if titers negative/equivocal)
    • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters required if titer negative/equivocal)
  • COVID-19: Proof of vaccination or signed declination (acceptable vaccines: AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna)
  • Drug test within 30 days of start and annually (specific panel required)
  • Color blindness testing via Ishihara exam (online testing not accepted)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (updated annually)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (updated annually) for ICU/Stepdown/Tele/Med-Surg units
  • Core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) annually
  • OSHA mandatory training annually (minimum 80% score)

Additional Notes

  • Time off (RTO) limited to 10 days maximum; no RTO allowed during specified blackout periods in 2026
  • Flexibility may be considered for harder-to-fill positions
  • Candidates must confirm renewal plans for any certifications expiring within 90 days of assignment start
  • Facility-specific new employee orientation modules must be completed within first two weeks of assignment
