Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical - Neuro Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Position Details

• Specialty: Medical Surgical - Neuro Registered Nurse
• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Shift: Nights, either 4 shifts of 12 hours or 3 shifts of 12 hours (18:00 - 06:30)
• Average Daily Census: 32 patients
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Hours per week: 36
• Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
• Floating: May be required to float within scope to meet facility needs
• Block Schedule: Schedule requests can be discussed with manager
• Locals accepted with no radius restrictions
• On-call: Not required

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical nursing with Telemetry
• Medical Surgical / Telemetry experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
• Experience with use of Rapid Response Teams
• Continuous bladder irrigation experience
• IV Therapy/Phlebotomy skills including:

  • Accessing ports
  • Central line blood draws
  • PICC line management
• Respiratory care experience including:

  • Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
  • Pre/Post Thoracic Surgery care
  • Tracheostomy management
• Experience with Cerner Electronic Health Record system

Licensure & Certifications

• Must have an active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Required Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• ACLS and PALS may be required based on unit/specialty

Additional Requirements

• Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
• Background checks and verifications required, including:

  • Comprehensive background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification
  • Illinois-specific inmate and offender registry searches within 30 days of start
• Health documents required:

  • Physical exam within one year of start
  • Fit mask test (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within one year
  • Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
• Competency exam required for clinical candidates
• Photo for badge required within one week of signing contract
• Code of conduct acknowledgment required within 7 days of contract signing
• Completion of computer-based learning modules before orientation

• Acute care hospital with 372 staffed beds
• Level II trauma center
• Charting system: Cerner
• Parking permit required but no cost for parking

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical Neuro RNs comfortable with complex patient care, telemetry monitoring, and a variety of specialized nursing skills in a Level II trauma acute care setting. Night shift availability and flexibility to float are essential.
