Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool (Travel/Contract)

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Specialty: Pediatric Critical Care
  • Float between PICU, CVPICU, and NICU units within scope
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1 or 1:2; may be 1:3 in NICU
  • Shift Options: Night (4x12 hours, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM) or Day (4x12 hours, 7:00 AM–7:30 PM)
  • Guaranteed 48 hours per week (no overtime until after 48 hours)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW), with option for blocked scheduling
  • Locals and first-time travelers accepted
  • Pending license accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: max 7 days; if 1 consecutive week off, must add week to end of contract

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in District of Columbia
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Critical Care Float experience, including within the last year
  • Experience in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Cardiovascular Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (CVPICU)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 30 days of start, including latex allergy information
  • Fit test for N95 (1860 or 1870+) or PAPRs within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Tdap vaccine within last 10 years (TD and DTap not accepted)
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 60 days of start; if past positive, chest x-ray required unless otherwise directed by provider
  • TB Questionnaire required for all candidates
  • Immunizations or positive quantitative titers required for:
    • Measles (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer with lab values)
    • Mumps (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer with lab values)
    • Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer with lab values)
    • Hepatitis B series and quantitative surface antibody titer (lab values required; low titers require vaccine series or declination form)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive quantitative titer with lab values; exceptions apply for LabCorp results)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • COVID-19 vaccine or declination required for tracking purposes
  • 10-panel drug screen including marijuana within 30 days of start

Additional Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Background checks within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including SSN trace, counties, states, nationwide, sex offender registry, FACIS Level 3, education verification, and international searches if applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • Education verification required (transcript/diploma accepted if pending)
  • Professional references: 2 within past 2 years, preferably supervisors/managers (cannot be pending)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Facility-specific photo for badge (must meet strict guidelines)
  • Completion of required facility training modules prior to start, including COVID-19 vaccine training and immunization best practices
  • Medication study guide provided for orientation test preparation
  • Physical and health documents must be current and complete before start

Notes

  • Clinician will float between PICU, CVPICU, and NICU as needed
  • No on-call requirement
  • Block scheduling for weekends is an option
  • Must be comfortable working in a pediatric critical care float pool environment with strong PICU focus
