Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry) - Travel/Contract

Location: Lafayette, Louisiana
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45 - 7:15)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work primarily on Medical Telemetry and Post Catheterization units with cardiac drip management.
• Patient diagnoses include chest pain, coronary artery disease, diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, COPD exacerbations, COVID-19 positive, TIA, stroke, hypertension, atrial fibrillation/flutter, bradycardia, tachycardia, wound infections, cellulitis, and GI bleeds.
• Special procedures encountered: pre/post angiogram and angioplasty (no sheath pulls), pacemaker/AICD management, LINQ recorder monitoring, general surgical procedures (EGD, colonoscopy, cholecystectomy, appendectomy), wound debridement, chest tube management, central line catheter insertions, thoracentesis, and paracentesis.
• Use of telemetry monitoring, chest tubes, and wound vacs is routine.
• Nurses may be assigned to an Emergency Team during events, requiring them to stay onsite or be part of relief efforts as directed by unit management.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
• Acute care nursing experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License or government-issued photo ID (color copy required).
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, sex offender search, and education verification as applicable.
• License verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (no instant screens).
• Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health.
• Fit mask testing (N95) within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed.
• Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
  • Tdap (required for select units)
• Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months; chest x-ray and questionnaire if positive.
• Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
• Skills checklist and competency exam specific to specialty, updated annually.

• Candidates must be comfortable with potential emergency event assignments requiring extended onsite presence.
• Photo for badge must be a recent, full-color, passport-style photo with a plain background.
