Description

Registered Nurse – MedTele/Cardiac Unit (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lafayette, Louisiana
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45–7:15)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Care Details

  • Unit: Medical Telemetry (MedTele), Post Catheterization, Cardiac drips
  • Patient Diagnoses include: Chest pain, Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), Diabetes Mellitus (DM), Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD), COPD exacerbation, COVID-19 positive, Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), stroke, Hypertension (HTN), Atrial Fibrillation, Atrial Flutter, Bradycardia, Tachycardia, wound infections, cellulitis, GI bleed
  • Special Procedures: Pre/post angiogram and angioplasty (no sheath pulls), Pacemaker (PPM)/Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (AICD), LINQ recorder, general surgical procedures (EGD, colonoscopy, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, wound debridement), chest tube management, central line catheter insertions, thoracentesis, paracentesis
  • Special Equipment: Telemetry monitoring, chest tubes, wound vacuums

Job Expectations

  • May be assigned to an Emergency Team during emergency events, requiring staying at the facility until the event passes or serving on a relief team
  • Must be comfortable with emergency event assignments as directed by unit management

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Acute care nursing experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Required Certifications & Compliance

  • BLS and ACLS certifications must be current; renewals required if expiring within 30 days of start
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, sex offender search, and education verification as applicable
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (instant screenings not accepted)
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months; if positive, chest X-ray and symptom-free questionnaire required
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity by titer or completed vaccine series
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination signed within 1 year
    • Varicella immunity by titer or vaccination series or booster
    • Seasonal flu vaccination, medical or religious exemption, or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
  • Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health
  • Fit mask testing (N95) within 1 year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
  • Skills checklist and competency exam specific to specialty, updated annually

Additional Notes

  • Unit accepts first-time travel nurses (no prior travel experience required)
  • Candidates must submit a full-color, passport-style photo for badge within 24 hours of booking
  • Employment application and resume required, including 7 years of employment history and explanations for gaps
  • Must be willing to comply with emergency preparedness protocols, especially during hurricane season (June 1 – Nov 30)
