Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Slidell, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM (5 days a week, 8 hours per day)
- Call: Required on weekdays, weekends, and holidays
- Weekend Requirement: 2 weekends per 6-week schedule
- Patient Load: 10-25 cases per day
- Rooms: 7 operating rooms
- Scrubs: Green scrubs provided
Job Expectations
- Upon starting, you may be assigned to an Emergency Team with an expectation to stay onsite until the event passes or be part of a relief team.
- Must be comfortable with emergency event assignments as directed by the unit manager.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Valid, current driver’s license or government photo ID (color copy required).
- Background checks including:
- 7-year criminal background check (within 90 days of start, updated annually)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (within 30 days of start, updated monthly)
- Sex offender search (within 30 days of start, updated monthly)
- Education verification or transcript/diploma if verification is not possible.
- NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (must be initiated within 24-48 hours of offer acceptance).
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, indicating good health.
- Fit mask testing (N95) within one year of start; can be completed onsite if needed.
- Immunizations and titers:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive IGG titer or completed vaccine series (2 doses).
- Hepatitis B: Positive antibody titer, completed vaccine series, booster after negative titer, or signed declination within 1 year.
- Varicella: Positive IGG titer, completed vaccine series, or booster after negative titer.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Required only for select specialties (not required for this role).
- Tuberculosis screening: Negative PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 12 months; if positive, additional documentation required.
- Seasonal flu vaccination, medical or religious exemption, or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).
Additional Requirements
- Skills checklist updated annually.
- Competency exam specific to specialty, completed within 1 year prior to start, minimum 80%.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required depending on unit (check with program management).
- Color photo for badge: full color, passport-style, taken within last 6 months with plain background.
- Employment application/resume required with 7 years of employment history and explanations for gaps.
Notes
- Candidates must be comfortable with emergency event assignments and potential extended shifts during such events.
- This position accepts first-time travel nurses with adequate OR experience.
- All certifications and licenses must be current or in the process of renewal before the start date.
