• Specialty: MedSurg (Medical-Surgical)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights
• Shift Hours: 12-hour shifts (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Unit: Medical-Surgical (32 beds, currently 20 staffed)
• Nurse:Patient Ratio: Maximum 1:5
• Patient Types:

  • Common diagnoses include chest pain, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, orthopedic cases, detox, post-op surgery patients, and pediatric patients.
  • Does not include laboring mothers or patients requiring titration of cardiac or insulin drips.

Required Qualifications

• License: Registered Nurse (RN)
• Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA) required
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) required for all RNs
  • ACLS and PALS recommended but not required
• Experience: Strong medical-surgical background required due to patient variety
• Skills:

  • Must have EPIC electronic health record experience
  • No requirement to titrate drips
• Additional:

  • Must submit an unexpired copy of a valid driver’s license with application

Work Environment & Responsibilities

• Floating: Required; frequently float to assist other units as needed
• Nurse Aides: 3 aides per shift support the unit
• Charge Nurse: No charge nurse; House Supervisor assigns nurses and aides
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP (all hours), high flow oxygen managed by RTs
• Telemetry: ICU monitors strips and faxes results to MedSurg nurses for documentation
• Orientation: 3-5 days including unit tour, policy review, and training with education, pharmacy, and lab departments
• Dress Code: Scrubs allowed except camo or orange; scrubs not provided

Scheduling & Time Off

• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required; night shift weekends are Friday, Saturday, Sunday
• Holiday Requirement: Rotates with regular staff
• Call/Standby: None
• Scheduling: Manager sets schedule; open to block scheduling and traveler preferences
• Extra Shifts: May be available
