Surgical Technologist (Rotating Shift)

Location: Vail, Colorado
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Assist during surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile surgical field and providing instrumentation to the surgical team. Work under the direction of a Registered Nurse and participate in unit activities to ensure high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and monitor sterile and aseptic techniques according to AORN standards.
• Prepare, check, and ensure integrity of surgical instruments and sterile packaging.
• Ensure operating room safety and proper functioning of equipment during procedures.
• Monitor sterile field for contamination and initiate corrective actions as needed.
• Assist with patient transports, room turnovers, and room preparation.
• Participate fully in perioperative team communication, including Time Out Process, Briefings, and Debriefings.
• Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Model professional behavior and maintain currency in new technologies and procedures.
• Adhere to HIPAA compliance and Just Culture principles.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Certified Surgical Technologist license in Colorado
• Certified Surgical Technologist with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Experience

• No explicit years of experience required beyond certification and licensure.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Standing: 50% of the workday
• Walking: 20%
• Sitting: 5%
• Squatting, bending, twisting: 5% each
• Lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally; up to 10 lbs frequently
• Exposure to potential hazards such as radiation, toxic chemicals, biological hazards, heat, noise, and dust.
• Must be able to work under stress and meet deadlines.

• Neonatal/Infant (0-11 months)

• Middle-aged Adults (65-79 years)
• Geriatric (80+ years)

Shift Details

• Rotating shifts, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
• Approximately 32 hours per week

Additional Information

• Must obtain CAPS registration for Colorado (may take up to two weeks).
• Ability to report promptly and routinely for scheduled shifts is essential.
