CVPICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Pediatric Cardiovascular Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (CVPICU) RN role
  • Shift rotation every 3-4 weeks between day (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM) and night (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM) shifts; facility may try to accommodate block shifts but no guarantee
  • 4x12 hour shifts schedule, overtime billed after 48 hours
  • Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
  • Weekend requirement: Every Other Weekend and Every Other Holiday
  • Self-scheduled shifts
  • Floating within scope to other critical care units (NICU/PICU) as needed, no age cutoff
  • Guaranteed 36 hours per week
  • Return to work (RTO) restriction: no more than 7 days; if a full week off, must be made up at contract end
  • Locals and first-time travelers accepted

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in District of Columbia
  • Minimum 2 years of Pediatrics CVICU experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association, valid and not expiring within 30 days of start
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association, valid and not expiring within 30 days of start

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Background checks within 30 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including SSN trace, sex offender registry, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Education verification (transcript/diploma accepted if pending)
  • Primary source verification of RN license (NURSYS verification required)
  • Physical exam within 30 days of start including latex allergy information
  • Fit test for N95 mask (1860 or 1870+) or PAPR within 1 year, updated annually
  • Immunizations and titers with quantitative lab values and reference ranges required for:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (series and quantitative surface antibody titer)
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years (TD and DTap not accepted)
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 60 days or chest x-ray if previously positive; TB questionnaire required for all candidates
  • 10-panel drug screen within 30 days including marijuana
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption form required during flu season
  • COVID vaccine or declination required for tracking
  • Completion of facility-specific modules and acknowledgements including:
    • Orientation Safety Manual
    • Pass/Fail Medication Calculation Exam (minimum 84%, 2 attempts allowed)
    • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam
    • Color Blind Testing (online or physical)
    • Facility Cornerstone Modules (COVID-19 vaccine training and immunization best practices)
  • Photo for badge must be submitted immediately after contract signing (specific photo guidelines apply)
  • Two professional references dated within past two years (preferably supervisors/managers)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required

Work Environment & Additional Information

  • Pediatric CVICU setting in a Magnet, Teaching, Level I Pediatric Trauma Center
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Scrub color: Any child-friendly color, no logos
  • Parking: Offsite parking required with monthly fee
  • Modules are not billable and average 20+ hours

Scheduling & Time Off

  • Must be able to rotate shifts every 3-4 weeks
  • Every Other Weekend and Holiday required
  • Return to work within 7 days maximum; if a full week off, must be made up at contract end

Notes

  • First-time travel nurses accepted
  • Floating to other critical care units within scope is required
  • Pending licenses accepted with proof but must be issued before start date
  • Photo for badge must meet strict guidelines and be submitted immediately after contract acceptance
