Registered Nurse (PACU) - West Virginia, Ranson

Job Details

• Specialty: Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Days
• Hours: 4 shifts per week, 10 hours per shift (40 hours/week)
• EMR System: EPIC

Unit & Patient Care

• Covers PreOp, Phase 1, and Phase 2 recovery areas
• Staffing ratios follow ASPAN guidelines:

  • Phase 1: Maximum 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Phase 2: Usually 2 RNs with a total of 3 RNs on the unit; rarely 1:3 ratio
• No floating outside the PACU department; must be able to work all phases (PreOp, Phase 1, Phase 2)
• No IV team; Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 in-house
• Pharmacy not in-house 24/7; Pyxis system available
• Scrub color provided

Call & Weekend Requirements

• Call shifts approximately 3-4 per month
• Weekend call counts as 3 call shifts if covering Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Call is generally light, mostly at the end of the day, rarely past 7 pm
• 30-minute call response time; must be dressed and ready to work within 30 minutes
• Weekend work usually required once every 8 weeks
• Holidays covered by call

Orientation & Training

• Floor-specific orientation: 1-2 shifts with a preceptor after main hospital orientation
• Orientation includes four 10-hour shifts covering days, call, nights, and weekends

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
• Minimum 2 years of recent PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Additional Submission Requirements

• Candidates can only submit to one position at a time within the system
• Driver’s license address must be more than 50 miles from the facility
• Previous permanent candidates must have been gone for 2 years before reapplying
• Previous travelers must have been gone for 2 years after completing at least 1 full year
• Travel teams must be submitted together
• Only 2 candidates submitted per opening; additional submissions held until a spot opens
• All submissions must include an unexpired copy of the candidate’s driver’s license
