Job Opportunity: Cath Lab Registered Nurse
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work schedule: Four 10-hour day shifts per week (7:30 AM – 6:00 PM), with some early shifts (6:30 AM – 5:00 PM) depending on procedure completion. One late shift per week to complete the last patient of the day.
- Call requirement: One night per week.
- Weekend requirement: One weekend every other month.
- Float requirement: As needed.
- Unit orientation: 24 hours.
- Scrubs provided.
- Medication, documentation, and communication systems used: Pyxis, MAC LAB, CUPID, EPIC, SBAR.
- Scheduling type: Self-scheduling.
- No Return to Office (RTO) after booking allowed; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to cancellation and Do Not Rehire status.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in specialty areas related to cardiac catheterization lab procedures.
- Clinical skills include:
- Diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations (adult and left/right heart).
- Cardiac stent placement, Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI).
- Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) placement/removal, Impella insertion.
- Pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz monitoring.
- Rotablator atherectomy, scrub procedures in cardiac cath lab.
- Administration and monitoring of procedural sedation, emergency medications, IV vasopressors, thrombolytics.
- Cardioversion, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
- Infection prevention, isolation precautions, and PPE use.
- Sheath removal and monitoring, topical hemostasis techniques.
- Use of IV infusion pumps and starting/maintaining IVs.
- Activated Clotting Time (ACT) monitoring, end-tidal CO2 monitoring.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with:
- Structural heart procedures (ASD closures, TAVR, valvuloplasty, Watchman procedure).
- Vascular interventions (angioplasty, carotid stenting, stent graft placement).
- Central venous access (non-tunneled, PICC, port placement).
- Dialysis graft creation/revision and interventional procedures.
- Endovascular interventions and vascular imaging (SVC/IVC venography, thoracic aortography, extremity angiography).
- Use of external compression devices, hypothermia and malignant hyperthermia protocols.
- Radiation and laser safety, vascular closure systems.
- Obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG.
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or American Red Cross accepted.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or American Red Cross accepted.
Required Licenses
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for North Carolina.
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (or documentation of past positive with appropriate follow-up).
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella. Declinations not accepted for measles.
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug test within 6 months of start.
- Physical exam: Not required for this crisis profile.
- Annual flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask-wearing requirement.
- Background check within 6 months for clinical candidates.
- Color blindness testing within 1 year.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with a minimum passing score of 82% (must be completed within 72 hours of start).
- Medication safety training certificate required prior to or shortly after start.
- Completion of facility-specific education modules and compliance training.
Additional Requirements
- Photo for badge: Passport-style photo on a solid white background, business attire, no head coverings except glasses, holding a paper with full name and phone number at stomach level. Must be submitted immediately after signing contract to avoid start delays.
- Completion of confidentiality agreement, hospital policies acknowledgment, and other facility-specific documents prior to start.
- Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist (approx. 8-10 hours of training).
- Must complete annual mandatory education if working in South Carolina.
- Must complete Corporate ID setup and I-Learn login within 24 hours of receiving credentials to avoid start delays.
Required Skills & Experience
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Cath Lab experience, including experience within the last year
- Proficient in diagnostic catheterizations (adult, left heart, right heart)
- Skilled in interventional catheterizations including Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI) and cardiac stent placement
- Experience with Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) placement and removal
- Experience with Impella insertion
- Proficient in pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz monitoring
- Skilled in rotablator atherectomy procedures
- Current ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
