Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Lansing, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
- Work in a Level 1 Trauma Center with Stroke and Heart Center designations, including a Pediatric Emergency Department.
- Schedule includes working 3 weekends (Friday-Sunday) per 4-week schedule; weekend shifts may vary from 1 to all 3 days.
- Floating to Pediatrics possible.
- High patient-to-nurse ratios expected (typically 1:5-6, potentially up to 1:8 during busy times or holidays).
- No on-call required.
- EPIC charting system used.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
- Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID (must be current throughout assignment).
- Social Security Card.
- E-Verify compliance.
- Background checks within 30 days of assignment start, including:
- 7-year Social Security Number Trace
- National Criminal History Search (7 years)
- National Sex Offender Database Search
- FACIS Level 3 Search
- Education verification (highest level required)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
- Physical exam within 12 months, noting latex sensitivity.
- N95 Fit Mask test within 12 months, updated annually.
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Qgold within 2 months) or chest x-ray if positive
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity (2 MMR vaccines or titers)
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
- Varicella immunity (2 vaccines or titers)
- 10-panel drug screen with THC within 30 days of start (no medical marijuana cards or dilute screens accepted).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required if assignment overlaps flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
- Completion of facility-specific modules and orientation safety manual acknowledgment prior to or at orientation.
- Competency exams as required by unit.
- Resume with 7-year work history and 2 references from previous employers.
- Skill inventory checklist.
Additional Notes
- No Return to Office (RTO) requests allowed for July.
- Modules related to orientation are not billable; candidates should allow approximately 5 hours for completion.
- Fingerprinting via Michigan LARA required only for certain locations, not applicable here unless specified.
- Traveler must acknowledge and be prepared for high patient ratios and weekend work requirements.
This position is ideal for ER Registered Nurses with trauma experience seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity, fast-paced emergency department environment.
