Description

Oncology Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Dayton, Ohio
Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • 35-bed medical and radiation oncology unit specializing in oncology and hematology patients
  • Mixed acuity: Medical-Surgical and Advanced Care patients
  • Frequent care involving blood products, chemotherapy, drips, PCAs, wounds, and more
  • Targeted patient ratios typically 1:4, can be up to 1:5-6
  • Nurses with ONS Certification administer chemotherapy
  • Navy blue scrubs required

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 1.5 years nursing experience, with some preferred level 1 or 2 experience
  • Oncology experience is required
  • Stepdown (SD) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience required; ICU experience does not count toward this requirement
  • Must demonstrate 1:5 patient ratio experience in SD or PCU in work history
  • EPIC electronic health record experience required
  • Ability to float to all Stepdown/Advanced Care units, including high-risk respiratory/COVID units
  • Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays
  • Pass an online EKG telemetry competency assessment before starting (must be able to read and interpret strips)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Nurses will be fitted for N95 respirators prior to working on the High-Risk Respiratory Unit (HRRU) unless PAPR is offered/needed
  • Travel experience preferred but not required

Floating & Work Location

  • Floating assignments at employer’s discretion, including main campus and nearby campuses within 10-15 miles
  • Floating may include specialty clusters and support nursing care teams on various units

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA only
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA only
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (must pass within 3 attempts)
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (within 2 years)
  • Other certifications as applicable to oncology nursing and unit requirements

Licensure

  • Valid Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license with primary source verification required

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG required
  • Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray; annual TB questionnaire if past positive
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination series, titer, or declination)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 12 months, including marijuana panel
  • Respiratory safety clearance and medical questionnaire for respirator use required
  • References: 2 professional references within 2 years, including 1 manager/supervisor/charge nurse
  • Current resume/application required
  • Skills checklist updated within 1 year prior to documentation due date

Additional Notes

  • No block scheduling; shifts are 36 or 48 hours per week with options for 18 or 20 week contracts as well
  • Employer reserves the right to cancel shifts or contracts with notice and without penalty
  • Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives
  • Request for Return to Offer (RTO) must be submitted with initial application; no RTO added after offer
  • Application must clearly show required SD/PCU experience to be reviewed by managers

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum of 1 year oncology nursing experience within the last year
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
