Description

Certified Surgical First Assistant - Travel/Contract

Location: Newport News, Virginia
Specialty: Surgical Services
Shift: Day (4x10 hours), 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Hours per Week: 40


Job Description

  • Work in a Level II Trauma Center with 15 operating rooms.
  • Surgical specialties include Neuro, General/Trauma, Robotics, Orthopedics, ENT, Vascular, Gynecology, GI, and Plastics.
  • Role requires Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) or Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) credential.
  • Must have at least 1 year of experience as a Surgical Assistant (SA).
  • CSA credential must be through VDHP.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Surgical First Assistant license in Virginia.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Surgical First Assistant experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Contract Details

  • Contract length: 13 weeks.

Additional Information

  • Must complete competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable within one year of start date.
  • Facility will administer computer-based learning (CBL) during orientation, including pass/fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge.
  • Must complete annual stroke education CEUs if applicable (not required for this role in OR).
  • Fingerprinting via Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check required starting 7/15/2025 (for tracking).
  • E-Verify or attestation required.

This travel contract position for a Certified Surgical First Assistant requires at least 1 year of surgical assisting experience, current CSA credential through VDHP, and BLS certification.
