Description

Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN - Urology/Nephrology)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM (3x12 hour shifts)
Unit Details:

  • 25-bed unit with an average daily census of 23 patients
  • Acute Care Hospital, Level I trauma center, Magnet designated

Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on a Medical Surgical unit specializing in Urology and Nephrology
  • Float within scope to other Medical Surgical units as needed
  • Work every other weekend
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not guaranteed

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical/Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Experience with Cerner electronic health record system

Clinical Skills & Experience Required

  • Pre/Post Hemodialysis management
  • Renal failure management
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line blood draws
  • PICC line management
  • Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to work within facility policies including floating to other units
  • No on-call required
  • Locals accepted with no radius restrictions
  • Return to office (RTO) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days

Orientation & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually
  • Primary source verifications for certifications and licenses
  • Competency exam required for clinical candidates
  • Badge photo required before start
  • Completion of computer-based learning modules before orientation
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
  • Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Immunizations or documented immunity required for: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
  • Two professional references required

  • Parking permit required, no cost to employee
  • Acute care hospital with 562 staffed beds

Prior Travel Experience

  • First-time travel nurses accepted if they have a solid Med/Surg foundation; prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Pros

Marigold is polite and professional. She goes above and beyond to ensure the contractor is well informed and has everything needed to be successful. Onboarding is somewhat tedious, but they do dot every "i" and cross every T.
