Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – CVICU (Cardiac ICU) – Night Shift – Columbus, Ohio
Position Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Location: Columbus, Ohio
- Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each; 19:00–7:30)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours
- Schedule: Weekdays and some weekends; rotating holidays
- Weekend Shifts: Up to 6 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (Saturday/Sunday for dayshift, Friday/Saturday for nightshift)
- Floating: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:1 to 1:2
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- Experience with mechanical ventilation (vents)
- Experience with Swan-Ganz catheter (SWANZ)
- Experience with conscious sedation
- Experience with balloon pumps
- Experience with pulmonary artery (PA) lines
- Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including:
- Social Security trace
- Counties lived/worked
- Nationwide search
- Sex offender registry
- Motor Vehicle Record (if driving is part of the job)
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required with specific Ohio code (3701.881)
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
- Competency exams including:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required within 1 year of start and updated annually)
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment (annual)
- Background monitoring monthly through First Advantage Workforce Monitoring
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or annual TB questionnaire
- Immunizations or titers required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Measles (Rubeola) – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
- Mumps – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
- Rubella – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
- Hepatitis B – Titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1–3/31)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending drug screen)
- Fit mask test required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 (onsite fit testing available if needed)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Contract Length
- Approximately 13 weeks
Additional Information
- Parking permits available for agency staff (costs and options subject to change)
- Candidates must review and sign dress code and hand hygiene policies
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually
- Fingerprinting results and background checks have specific submission and approval processes; timely completion is critical
- Candidates with gaps in employment over 30 days with this employer may require updated health and background documentation
