Patient Population
- Adults and Geriatrics
- Primarily care for newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients
Work Schedule
- Night shift: 12-hour shifts (19:00 to 7:30), 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
- Rotating 12-hour day/night shifts possible depending on department needs
- No set/blocked scheduling; self-scheduling requests accepted before finalizing
- Variable weekends based on unit needs
Staffing Ratios
- Goal is 1:4, may be up to 1:5
Orientation
- First week: Monday to Friday, dayshift
- Second week: 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Preferred Certifications
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification (not required)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Required Skills & Competencies
- Medical-Surgical / Telemetry nursing experience
- Telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- IV therapy and phlebotomy
- Blood product administration
- Central line blood draws
- Peripheral line care and management
- PICC line management
- Starting IVs
- Computerized charting experience (EPIC)
Special Focus Areas
- Infection prevention protocols
- Patient falls prevention
Background and Credentialing Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide check, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is required
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific code (3701.881)
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- License verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification required for RNs
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; annual TB questionnaire required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12; Tdap only)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; declination accepted
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- Fit mask test required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 (valid for entire assignment length)
Competency Exams
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%, max 3 attempts)
References and Documentation
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership role (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application required including education details
- Skills checklist required
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience
- PCU nursing experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
