Specialty & Experience

• Specialty: OR Certified First Assistants
• Required experience: Minimum 1 year in the specialty
• Preferred: Orthopedics and Neurosurgery experience
• Prior travel experience: Must have completed 2-3 previous travel assignments

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) via NBSTSA
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA
• BLS Certification (AHA)
• Must be a graduate of a CAAHEP accredited Surgical Assistant program
• ABSA certification not accepted

Work Environment & Unit Details

• Operating Room with 14 suites
• Average 28 cases per day plus 5 add-ons, including same-day surgery cases
• Case types: Orthopedics (including total joints, open fractures), Neurosurgery/spine, General surgery, ENT; no open heart cases; vascular cases starting soon
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1 in OR
• EMR system: EPIC
• Charge nurse coverage from 7 AM to 7 PM
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7; anesthesia interprets telemetry strips
• Pharmacy available 24/7 with automated dispensing system (Omnicell)
• Ventilator patients are managed by RTs in OR and PACU

Shift & Scheduling

• Shifts: 8, 10, and 12 hours; primarily day and evening shifts
• Shift length for this role: 12-hour day shifts
• No self-scheduling for travelers; block scheduling possible if it meets unit needs
• Floor-specific orientation: 3 shifts

Call Requirements

• Weekend and weeknight call rotations required
• Call shifts include:

  • 1 x 12-hour shift per week (weeknights 7 PM–7 AM or 7 PM–11 PM)
  • 1 x 24-hour weekend call shift per month (can be split into two 12-hour shifts)
  • Weekend call shifts vary (7 AM–7 PM, 7 PM–7 AM, 7 PM–11 PM, or 7 AM–7 AM)
• Call response time: 20 minutes (if >20 minutes away, must stay on site)
• Holiday call coverage as needed

Additional Information

• Scrubs provided for CSFAs and OR techs
• Scrubbing as an RN is a plus but not required
• No floating to other units except occasional outpatient surgery
• No floating to other floors
• Techs assist with room turnover; no housekeeping or aides available
• Must disclose any license issues at time of submission
• Driver’s license address must be outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
• Previous permanent candidates must have been gone for 2 years before reapplying
• Previous travelers must have been gone for 2 years after 1 full year assignment before reapplying
• Travel teams must be submitted together

This position is ideal for experienced Certified Surgical First Assistants with prior travel assignments and proficiency in orthopedic cases seeking a 13-week contract with structured call responsibilities and varied surgical case exposure.
