Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • Fast-paced, high-acuity labor and delivery unit with over 300 births per month.
  • Double labor assignments are common daily.
  • Average patient volume: 20 births in 24 hours, 30-40 admits, 40 visits/day, 20 rooms.
  • Patient population includes obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care, including under 16 weeks high-risk patients.
  • Procedures include scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage.
  • Unit uses PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR systems.
  • Orientation: 24 hours.
  • Scrubs provided (blue).

Shift Details

  • Night shift: 18:45 to 07:15 (12-hour shifts)
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend, minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule.
  • Float requirement: Float as needed on a special maternity care high-risk OB unit.
  • No call requirement.
  • RTO (Request Time Off) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite; excessive call-offs or RTO may lead to cancellation.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Experience circulating in the OR
  • Competency in performing sterile vaginal exams

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including local, federal, national criminal databases, DOJ sex offender search, and education verification for highest degree earned.
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days and annual updates required.
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical).
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal. Declinations not accepted.
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or facility-specific declination if negative/equivocal.
  • TB testing: PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year; if positive, clear chest x-ray within 5 years and annual physician-signed TB questionnaire required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required; mask-wearing required if exemption granted.

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete facility-specific education modules including medication safety, annual compliance training, and non-Novant health worker orientation (if applicable).
  • Must complete competency exams as applicable (e.g., medication test, dysrhythmia/EKG competency).
  • References: 2 professional references within 3 years for travel and acute care positions.
  • Employment application must be uploaded prior to start.
  • Facility-specific documents such as confidentiality agreement, hospital policies acknowledgment, and badge photo submission required.
  • Corp ID and I-Learn account setup required prior to start, including logging into I-Learn within 24 hours of password setup.

Notes

  • Strong preference for RNs with OR circulate experience due to unit acuity.
  • 48-hour contracts are generally not recommended due to fast-paced environment.
  • Candidates must be prepared for a challenging workload and high patient acuity.

This position is ideal for experienced labor and delivery nurses comfortable in a busy, high-volume maternity unit seeking a travel contract opportunity on night shifts.
