Description
Physical Therapist - Outpatient (Travel/Contract)
Location: Morgan City, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (5 days/week, 40 hours/week)
Job Overview
- Average daily census: ~25 patients divided among 2.5 therapists
- Patient visits per day: 8-12
- Specialty focus: Orthopedics and Geriatrics
- Open to first-time travel therapists and those with less than 2 years of experience (no new graduates)
- May be assigned to an Emergency Team during events, requiring extended stay or relief coverage as directed by unit manager
Required Qualifications
- Valid Physical Therapist license in Louisiana
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or RQI accepted)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
- Education verification or transcript/diploma if verification cannot be completed
- Sex offender search within 30 days of start, updated monthly
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (instant screenings not accepted)
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, indicating good health
- Fit mask testing (N95) within 1 year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
- Immunizations/vaccinations or proof of immunity required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if applicable to specialty)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive IGG titer or completed vaccine series)
- Hepatitis B (positive antibody titer, completed vaccine series, booster, or signed declination)
- Varicella (positive IGG titer, completed vaccine series, or booster)
- Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months of start, updated annually; if positive, additional documentation required
- Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
- Photo for badge: full color, passport-style, taken within last 6 months with plain background
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness protocols, including possible extended shifts during emergency events
- Skills checklist and competency exam specific to specialty required annually
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required depending on unit assignment (check with program management)
- Employment application and resume required, including 7 years of employment history and explanations for gaps
This position offers a structured outpatient physical therapy role with a focus on orthopedic and geriatric populations, suitable for therapists new to travel assignments or with limited experience.
