Registered Nurse - MS/Telemetry (Travel/Contract)
Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)

Job Description
- Provide care for overflow ventilator patients; must have tracheostomy experience.
- Patient assignments include up to 5 non-ventilator patients; patients will be pulmonary ventilated and undergoing ventilator weaning.
- Average nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6 during days, nights, and weekends.
- Weekend work required every other weekend.
- Floating between sister units (NP1 & EP 4-6) may be frequent within scope of practice.
- First-time travel nurses accepted.
- Locals not accepted.
- Pending license accepted if active prior to start date.
- Guaranteed hours.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Connecticut.
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, with at least 1 year of recent experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Tracheostomy (trach) experience required.
- Ventilator experience required.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or competency.
Facility & Work Environment
- Short Term Acute Care facility.
- Level I Trauma Center.
- Total staffed beds: 1,567.
- Charting system: Epic.
- Scrub color: Royal blue.
- Parking cost: $125/month.
Certifications & Training Requirements
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit.
- Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC) – verify unit-specific requirements.
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam required within 12 months prior to start (minimum 85% passing score).
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for RNs in telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, ICU, progressive care, stepdown, PACU, IR, cath lab, labor and delivery units.
- Color Blind Testing required for all candidates starting on or after 8/2/2024 (minimum 80% passing score).
- Language Services Training required for RNs (except certain hospitals).
- CAUTI Education Training required for RNs except PICU, NICU, and Psychiatry/Behavioral Health.
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training required for RNs.
- Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module required for RNs except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, and NICU.
- Stroke Education Module required for RNs except pediatric specialties and NICU.
- CLABSI Prevention Training required for RNs.
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training required for RNs.
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education required for RNs.
- Pyxis ES MedStation Training required for RNs.
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training required for RNs.
- Patient Bedside Rounding Module required for RNs and CNAs (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED).
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness module required for RNs.
- AME Blood Administration Module required for all RNs except Case Managers and Behavioral Health/Psych and Home Health (annual update required).
- New Employee Orientation Module required by start date.
- 21st Century Cures Act Module required for RNs (except Home Health).
- ED Handbook required for ED/ER RNs.
- eCart Training Module required for all RNs except Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health.
- Chaperone Policy Training required for RNs and Allied staff (new or updated module if gap >6 months).
- Fire Safety Module required for RNs and Allied staff starting 5/4/2026.
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start; must be updated annually. Clean-shaven required for fit testing.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination highly preferred for pediatric specialties, labor and delivery, postpartum (Tdap declination acceptable).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation required. TB questionnaire required annually.
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, vaccine series, or declination within 1 year)
- Varicella (positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician documented history)
- 10 Panel Drug Screen required within 12 months of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31). Declinations not allowed.
- COVID vaccine series preferred but not required.
Background & Documentation
- 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months of start, including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national sex offender, national criminal, federal extended, and DMV search (for home health only).
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
- Education verification required; foreign equivalency report and diploma required for internationally educated candidates.
- Transcript may be required if education verification cannot be completed.
- Sex offender search required.
- Employment application must include 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days.
- Work history verification required for last 7 years for all start dates on/after 8/2/2024.
- One supervisor reference within the past year required for Cardio Thoracic ICU; charge nurse references not accepted. Other units follow standard reference requirements.
- Skills checklist required within 12 months of start.
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for certain tech and specialty roles (not applicable for RN).

- Candidate must have photo ID matching legal name on first day.
- Clinician may float frequently between units within scope of practice.
- Block scheduling is not accommodated.
- On-call is not required.
- Pending license accepted if active before start date.
- Locals are not accepted for this travel position.
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with ventilator and trach experience seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity acute care setting with a Level I Trauma Center. The role requires flexibility to float between units and weekend availability every other weekend.
