NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Salina, Kansas


Job Details

  • Shift: Night shift, 18:45 - 7:15 (12-hour shifts)
  • Hours per Week: 36 hours
  • Work Setting: NICU Level II and Mother-Baby unit (occasional Mother-Baby shifts)
  • Patient Population: Neonates 29-34 weeks gestation; occasional postpartum moms and well newborns (max 4 couplets)
  • Unit Ratio: 1:1 in NICU or 1:4 in postpartum

Job Description

  • Position primarily in NICU with occasional work on Mother-Baby unit.
  • Must attend high-risk deliveries including forceps/vacuum, C-sections, and surgical cases.
  • Facility enforces a 100-mile radius rule for mileage approval.
  • First-time travelers are not accepted.
  • EMR experience required: MEDITECH mandatory; GE Centricity preferred but not required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Kansas
  • Minimum 3 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
  • BLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with infectious disease protocols including Isolation Precautions, Neonatal Sepsis, and Sepsis workup
  • Proficient in starting and maintaining IVs
  • Skilled in neonatal dosage calculations
  • Experience with High Flow Nasal Cannula oxygen delivery systems
  • Ability to perform hearing screens
  • Experience with MEDITECH electronic medical records system

Schedule Requirements

  • Every other weekend required.

Facility & Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service.
  • Proof of E-Verify or attestation required.
  • Background checks:
    • 7-year criminal background check within one year of start, updated annually.
    • Must include all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
    • FACIS Level III screening required within 30 days of start.
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated with contract renewals.
  • Education verification: Proof of highest degree required.
  • Nursys verification required for all RNs.
  • Physical exam within last 12 months, signed by MD, DO, PA, or ARNP confirming ability to perform essential job functions.
  • N95 Fit Test within 12 months of start; can be completed onsite during orientation if needed.
  • Immunizations and titers required or accepted:
    • Tdap vaccine within last 10 years (required for NICU/Birth Center staff)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination series
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series (or declination form)
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination series
  • Drug screening:
    • 10-panel drug screen including marijuana within 60 days of start (SAMHSA certified, reviewed by MRO)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); declination requires mask wearing.
  • COVID-19 vaccine or declination accepted; medical/religious exemptions accepted with declination form.
  • Completion of facility-specific Healthstream modules (~8 hours) required prior to start.
  • Photo for badge required.

References & Evaluations

  • Two professional references required within 2 years for travel positions.
  • Performance evaluations required if previously worked with the facility over 1 year.
  • Skills checklist must be updated annually for applicable units.

  • Facility does not accept instant background checks as placeholders; full background check must be on file prior to start.
  • Candidates must comply with the facility’s 100-mile radius rule for mileage approval.
  • This position requires prior travel experience; first-time travelers are not eligible.
