Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Livingston, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery
  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, each 12.5 hours (19:30 to 6:30)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
  • Unit: Labor & Delivery with floating to Antepartum, Postpartum, and PACU as needed
  • Average Census: Approximately 19 patients daily, 26 beds/rooms
  • Charting System: EPIC and Pyxis
  • Scrubs: Provided; Labor & Delivery staff wear blue scrubs
  • Call: Not required
  • Weekend Policy: Every other weekend, based on unit needs
  • Time Off: All requested time off must be submitted and approved before offer

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New Jersey
  • Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) certification

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks: Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches
  • Drug Screening: Negative 10-panel urine drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
    • Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption
    • Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing (mandatory)
    • Latex allergy screening questionnaire if applicable
    • Color vision testing if job tasks require color discrimination
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (as applicable)
    • IV Therapy/Infusion exam
  • Pass/Fail Testing: Pharmacology and EKG exams required with remediation policy in place
  • References: Two references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
  • Work History: Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history; New Jersey candidates require verification of at least 1 year prior to start with no gaps over 30 days

Additional Information

  • Floating to related units (Antepartum, Postpartum, PACU) based on hospital needs
  • Must complete facility-specific floating policy for every new assignment
  • Orientation includes mandatory safety and annual education sign-offs
  • Must complete electronic fetal monitoring certification (beginner level required for Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby units)
  • Facility requires acknowledgment of pass/fail testing if no valid competency exams on file
  • Must comply with all facility-specific policies and documentation deadlines

This is a travel/contract Labor & Delivery RN position requiring a minimum of 1 year of recent Labor & Delivery experience and specific certifications including ACLS, BLS, and EFM. The role involves night shifts with a 1:2 patient ratio and requires flexibility to float to related units.
