Job Opportunity: Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) - Pediatrics

Location

  • Charleston, South Carolina

  • Travel / Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

  • Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics (Pediatrics, Neonate, Infant)
  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: May float within scope depending on experience; no floating to sister facilities

Required Qualifications

  • Certified Respiratory Therapist with NICU experience (minimum 2 years)
  • NICU respiratory therapy experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Pediatric, Neonate, and Infant patients
  • Certifications required:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Work Environment

  • Facility Type: Teaching hospital, Magnet status, Level 1 Trauma center
  • Total staffed beds: 865
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Scrub color: Caribbean Blue
  • Parking: Paid parking for nights and weekends with a one-time $20 pass fee

Scheduling and Hours

  • Guaranteed hours with allowance for facility to call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated with prior approval
  • Radius rule: 60 miles; local hires considered case-by-case

Important Notes

  • Hurricane season (June–November) may require assignment to emergency response teams
  • COVID-19 vaccines are highly preferred but not required; vaccination records must be uploaded or a declination form completed
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (August 1 – March 31); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
  • Fit testing for N95 masks required within 90 days prior to start and annually thereafter
  • Radiation badge may be required depending on unit assignment

Required Documentation and Compliance

  • Copy of Driver’s License and Social Security Card
  • Completed I-9 form and work eligibility attestation
  • Annual background check covering last 7 years with multiple searches (criminal, sex offender, national, etc.)
  • Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
  • Primary source verification of active, unencumbered SC respiratory license
  • Proof of 2 clinical references
  • Employment history verification for last 3 clinical employers
  • Color blindness test prior to start
  • Competency exams as applicable
  • Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Fit test documentation for N95 respirators (specific mask models required)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if prior positive
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titers or vaccination series with boosters as needed
    • Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start
  • Passport-style badge photo with solid light background required before start

Additional Information

  • All required documents and certifications must be current and not expiring within 30 days of start date
  • Facility may deny start if documentation or certifications are incomplete or expired
  • Travelers must comply with all facility-specific policies and procedures, including emergency preparedness during hurricane season
