Description
ICU Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 - 7:30)
Hours per week: 36 hours
Contract length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule & Environment
- Night shift, 3 shifts per week (12-hour shifts)
- Work every other weekend
- Floating as needed
- May be assigned to non-critical care patients due to mixed patient populations on the unit
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with ICU experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by AHA or ARC
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by AHA or ARC
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (verify with unit description):
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) for ER units
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) for Behavioral Health and preferred for ER RNs
Required Competencies & Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must pass with 85%) within 12 months of start
- Color Blind Testing (must pass with 80% or higher; required for all candidates starting on/after 8/2/2024)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for RNs in Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER/ED, ICU, Progressive Care, Stepdown, PACU, IR/Cath Lab, Endoscopy, GI, Labor and Delivery units (not required for NICU, Psych/Behavioral Health, Pediatric, Ambulatory units)
Required Background & Documentation
- 7-year criminal background check within 12 months of start (includes SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national sex offender, national criminal, federal extended)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification of highest level completed (official transcripts required if third-party verification unavailable)
- Foreign equivalency evaluation and diploma required for internationally educated candidates
- Work history verification for last 7 years with no gaps greater than 90 days
- References per standard requirements
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable to certain tech or specialty roles
Required Health & Immunization Documents
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred; clean shaven required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation (T-Spot or QGold within 6 months, or 2 PPDs within 12 months)
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
- Varicella (or documented history/vaccines)
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccination series preferred but not required

- CLABSI Prevention for Adult and Pediatric Training
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
- Pyxis ES MedStation Training
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
- Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except certain hospitals)
- AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health) - annual update required
- New Employee Orientation Module (required by start date)
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
- eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap >6 months or module updated)
- Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026)
- EPIC Testing for ER RNs with prior EPIC experience (optional but highly encouraged)
