ICU Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Patient Population: Adults & Geriatrics
Unit: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
Job Details
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
- Weekend requirement: Approximately 6 weekend shifts per 8-week schedule (may vary based on staffing)
- Floating: May float to adult inpatient areas depending on census and staffing
- Orientation: Bi-weekly sessions
- Scrub color: Royal Blue
- Local candidates within 75 miles considered
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid NC or compact RN license verification (new verification required for this assignment)
- Background checks within 90 days of start, including:
- SSN trace, counties lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Sex Offender, International searches (if applicable)
- Education verification as applicable
- Physical exam within 12 months of start (latex allergy acceptable)
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no exemptions)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with documentation for positive history)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity (vaccines or positive titers, no exemptions)
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Varicella immunity (2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low/equivocal)
- Seasonal flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
- Polio vaccine or signed attestation
- Drug test: Negative 10-panel (including THC) within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
- Two professional references from employment within 12 months of start (at least one supervisor)
- Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually)
- Competency exam and unit-specific competency checklist (CBO) to be completed within 3 weeks after start
- Completion of required online orientation modules prior to start
- Setup of facility-specific guest account prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems
Additional Notes
- Candidates must have completed at least one prior travel contract (no first-timers)
- Candidate must be prepared for a background check and drug screening with no pending results at start
- CPI training provided onsite if candidate does not have current certification
- Candidate must complete all required documentation and health requirements before orientation
- Floating assignments may include other adult inpatient units based on staffing needs
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with MICU background seeking a travel contract in North Carolina with night shifts and a structured orientation process.
