Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract

  • 26 weeks (will accept 13 weeks)

Shift Details

  • Night shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Every other weekend and holidays as needed

Specialty

  • Draeger ventilator experience required
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience preferred but not required
  • Floating between hospital campuses and units including NICU and Pediatric units expected based on census and staffing needs

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Connecticut
  • Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • Prior travel experience as a Respiratory Therapist

Required Certifications and Licenses

  • Current state license as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) or RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certifications may be required if working in NICU or pediatric units
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred for trauma units
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care including use of Draeger ventilators and neonatal oscillating/high frequency jet vents
  • May be asked to orient students or new hires
  • Support multiple hospital units as needed, including NICU and Pediatric units

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check (including SSN trace, national sex offender, federal and state checks) updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Verification of highest level of education; foreign equivalency evaluation required for internationally educated candidates
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (clean shaven required)
  • 10 panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • COVID vaccination series preferred
  • Annual competency exams including medication/pharmacology and color blindness testing
  • Various facility-specific training modules and attestations (e.g., language services, CAUTI education, suicide risk assessment, fire safety, patient bedside rounding, ventricular assist device awareness, blood administration, etc.) required and must be completed prior to or at orientation
  • EPIC system testing or training may be required depending on prior experience

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must have photo ID matching legal name on first day
  • Must provide a 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • References required; for RRT candidates, one reference must be from a supervisor
  • Floating and schedule flexibility required
  • Candidates must confirm all requested time off (RTO) before offer acceptance; no additional RTO will be approved after acceptance

This position is ideal for experienced Respiratory Therapists with trauma and ventilator experience who have prior travel assignments and are flexible to work nights and float across multiple units including NICU and pediatrics.
