Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – Stepdown Unit
Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Unit: Stepdown/MedSurg (29-bed unit, opening Q1 2026)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Unit & Patient Population
- Stepdown unit with nurse-to-patient ratio of 3:1; med-surg floor ratio 6:1
- Flex unit serving both floor and stepdown patients based on hospital needs
- Diverse medical patient population with primarily medical diagnoses
- Equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP on floor and stepdown; HiFlow and vents in stepdown (vent settings adjusted by ICU)
- Remote telemetry surveillance center with central monitoring; RNs not required to read telemetry strips
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- Must have EPIC electronic health record experience
- Ability to manage 3 patients in stepdown or 6 patients on med-surg floor
- Experience with titrating drips (orders provided) including heparin, insulin, antihypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, PCA opioids, and TPN
Additional Information
- Charge nurses and house supervisors available 24/7; charge nurses may take patient assignments initially but goal is to have a free charge RN
- Nurse aides (Clinical Associates) support the unit with a goal ratio of 1 CA per 10 patients
- No call or standby requirements
- Floating expected to other floor or stepdown units as needed
- Dress code: royal blue and white scrubs
- Orientation specific to unit, including 12-hour nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
- Weekend shifts are a focus for agency RN positions
- Expect to work about half of recognized holidays
