Description
Registered Nurse – Cardiac Stepdown (10SE Cardiac Stepdown)
Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Yes
Call/Standby: No call or standby required; overtime available
Floating: Yes, to sister units within Heart and Vascular Institute
Unit Overview
- 32 beds total (all private): 22 Stepdown beds, 12 Floor beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- Stepdown: 1 RN to 3 patients
- Floor: 1 RN to 6 patients
- Clinical Associates (nurse aides) support at a ratio of 1 CA to 8-10 patients (goal of 4-5 CAs 24/7)
- Telemetry: Cardiac Monitor Technicians (CMTs) interpret all strips on unit
- Respiratory equipment used includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow devices
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Cardiac Surgery post-op patients: CABG, MIDCAB, Maze procedure, valve replacements, mitral clip, LVAD, heart transplants, TAVRs
- Vascular Surgery post-op/procedures: AAA repair, carotid endarterectomy (CEA), femoral bypass, angiograms, amputations
- Cardiology cases: STEMI, NSTEMI, heart failure, Watchman device, cardiac catheterization procedures (PTCA, stents, ICDs, ablations, pacemakers)
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
- Cardiac and vascular nursing experience required
- Ability to titrate drips including heparin, amiodarone, Cardizem, TPA, Lasix, dobutamine
Orientation & Work Environment
- Unit-specific orientation: 2-3 shifts
- Dress code: Solid royal blue and white scrubs
- Unit known for excellent patient care and strong teamwork atmosphere
Submission & Eligibility Notes
- Candidates must have a driver’s license address located more than 50 miles from the facility
- Previous permanent candidates must have been off the unit for 2 years before reapplying
- Previous travelers must have been off the unit for 2 years after completing a full year on the unit
- Only one submission allowed at a time across the system
- Travel teams must be submitted together
- Maximum of 2 candidates submitted per opening; additional submissions held until a spot opens
- All submissions must include an unexpired copy of the candidate’s driver’s license
